It is with deep sorrow that we share the unfortunate news about the Royal family…

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michel de Grece, King Charles III’s uncle, at the age of 85. His death marks the end of a significant chapter in European royal history.

Michel de Grece, who was the last surviving grandson of King George I of Greece, passed away in an Athens hospital on July 28, according to the Greek newspaper Ekathimerini.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been disclosed. Known as Prince Michael, he had close connections to the British royal family as a first cousin of the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, making him an uncle to King Charles III.

In 1965, Michel made headlines when he renounced his royal rights to marry Marina Karella, an artist and commoner, marking a pivotal moment in his life.

Together, they had two daughters, Princess Alexandra and Princess Olga, and five grandchildren. Despite political turmoil in Greece, Michel remained devoted to his homeland, even during the failed 1967 counter-coup when then-King Constantine attempted to overthrow the military Junta.

Michel’s love for Greece profoundly shaped his work as a historian and author. He wrote extensively on Greek history, the Ottoman Empire, and European royalty, leaving a lasting impact through his influential books.

He also shared personal stories and insights on his Instagram page, offering followers a glimpse into his life and travels.

In 2021, he expressed his views on the British monarchy, showing empathy for King Charles III’s challenges and emphasizing his admiration for his own family.

Michel de Grece’s passing closes a remarkable chapter in European royal history. His unique life choices and significant contributions to history will be remembered for years to come.
